Market Size and Potential is the Main Reason Why KPOP Groups Skip India

One of the primary factors influencing the decision of K-pop groups to skip India on their Asian tours is the market size and potential. While India boasts a massive population, which could potentially translate into a sizable fan base, the actual demand for K-pop music and concerts remains relatively limited compared to other Asian countries like Japan, China, South Korea, Thailand, and Indonesia. Concert organizers and entertainment agencies weigh the cost of organizing a concert in India against the expected returns, making the business aspect a crucial consideration.

Limited Purchasing Power of Target Audience, Particularly Teenagers

When compared to most other countries where KPOP concerts have been hosted, purchasing power is lower. In India, minors very rarely make money, therefore, the decision to attend a performance is made by parents or guardians. This has limited the market of the KPOP concert in India. I believe the Indian host should be a company that understands the Korean culture and how the Korean management thinks. If that can be solved, more and more Korean management companies will look into the Indian market.”

India is located at a considerable distance from South Korea, which can lead to logistical challenges for concert organizers and touring agencies. Planning international tours involves considerable resources, including time, money, and manpower. The long distance between South Korea and India could result in increased expenses and potential difficulties in coordinating the logistics of a successful tour.

Fierce Competition

India’s entertainment industry is vast and diverse, with various music genres and local talents competing for attention. Bollywood, the Indian film industry, is a significant cultural force, producing a vast array of music and film content that caters to the preferences of the Indian audience. Max Jang (Maxperience’s founder) has brought a happy news for Indian KPOP fans by stating in one of his interview that India is definitely one of the top countries, KPOP industry wants to develop more. That’s why they have tried to arrange a lot of Korean celebrity interviews with Indian media channels.

Both India and South Korea KPOP music industry stakeholders should take an interest in the cultural and business landscape each operates within.
